The Newcastle Falcons (England) Rugby Academy is one of 14 regionally based centres across the country and covers the three northern counties of England (Northumberland, Durham and Cumbria).
The academies are governed by the Elite Department of the RFU and Premiership Rugby and are delivered locally by the professional clubs. The programme sits alongside the representative playing pathway in England and is athlete centred, development driven and competition supported.
Each academy is accredited with an Academy License Agreement and is reviewed via an annual audit with the RFU and PRL. These external audits together with the internal ‘club-based’ governance of the programme ensure that the academies are performing for both club and country.
The RFU and PRL provide an annual license fee to the clubs to run the academy programme, which is supplemented by additional club funding and governing body performance related funding.
